Inuit Carving

Serpentine Stone

Man in Kayak

Carver-Ricky Jaw

Cape Dorset, Nunavut, Canada

This carving depicts a Hunter in his Kayak, holding his harpoon in his right hand, poised to throw it into the waters below...perhaps after a seal or fish... he has a double dead paddle across the bow of the kayak and there is a float at the back-used for the hunting of marine mammals

The harpoon and paddleare carved from bone, and the man and his kayak are carved from serpentine stone, a much harder stone than soapstone.

This piece is signed Ricky Jaw on the bottom.

It measures approximately 8” in length and is 1-3’4” wide across the centre, and it is approximately 2-1/2” in height.

This carving is in excellent  condition. It came from a store that has closed due to retirement.
